If you haven't seen the Coastal Carolina clip yet, stop reading and go watch it. One hand. Full extension. Contested. That's Trell Harris, and that play is the reason Hunter and I couldn't stop talking about him when we sat down to record our "Under the Radar" series video for Oklahoma. The Virginia transfer is headed to Norman, and we're calling it now: he's going to be the breakout wide receiver in the SEC this season.
Here's the situation. Oklahoma made the College Football Playoff last year behind an elite defense, but the offense? Ninth in the SEC in passing yards per game. 57th in the FBS. Truthfully, that offensive performance is not going to be enough to get to a natty and OU fans and the coaching staff know that. The Sooners needed a true big play target to play alongside Isiah Sategna who could win in man coverage, find soft spots in zone, and turn short catches into chunk plays. Harris checks every single box for that need.
At Virginia, he posted 59 catches, 847 yards, and five touchdowns, including a 161-yard explosion with 1 TD against Duke in Week 12 and a three-touchdown masterclass versus Stanford alongside 145 yards...I mean the guy averaged 36 yards per reception that game. This isn't a project. He's ready right now.
Other Options for Under the Radar Players at OU:
Hunter and I debated between Harris and Parker Livingstone for our under-the-radar pick, and it wasn't even close once we broke down the tape. Livingston's got name recognition from his Texas days, but Harris is the unknown who's about to become a household name. The ACC to SEC WR Success:
The ACC-to-SEC receiver pipeline has been automatic lately with Isaiah Horton (MIA to ALA, now TAMU) , Kevin Coleman Jr. (Louisville to Miss St/Mizzou- NFL), Eric Singleton Jr (GT to AUB, now Florida). The next man up is Harris, and he has every tool to be on that successful Wide Reciever list.
My Prediction (Randall Ledet Jr.): Trell Harris finishes top ten in SEC receiving TD's in 2026. Pair him with Isiah Sategna , Parker Livingstoneand a more comfortable John Mateer in year two at OU, and this Oklahoma passing attack is going to look completely different.
We broke this down in full on the latest episode of The New SEC Podcast- including the film details, WR comparisons, and why we think this entire offense is being built to let Mateer go to work. Go listen, subscribe if you haven't already, and drop us a comment with your breakout pick. Sooner Nation, it's almost football season. Let's ride. 🏈
